Skutch's 8th Christmas

This was our third Christmas on Schierling Hts. and the icy/snowiest to date! Dad kept very busy cindering, salting, and plowing on Christmas Eve as Ry and Mom baked cookies. Oh, yeah, Ry did have a good time "plowing" the porch!

Ry attended the late church service for the first time! He hung out with Nana and Poppy while Mom sang in the choir and played bells.

The next morning, at precisely 7:30am, Ry discovered that Santa had indeed arrived! It was a lego & game Christmas!

Skutch's 8th Summer

Whew.... it is difficult to believe that the summer is nearly over! Yesterday, while sitting in the optometrist's chair, Ryan reported doing "not much" this summer. So much for the doctor's attempt to make small talk! Here are some of the Skutch Adventures of the Summer of 2008.

Ryan also went rafting on the Delaware River, explored Knoebels Amusement Park, swam like a fish, helped mom set up a new classroom, helped with hay, helped Dad, Grandpa, and Jeff with Sheldons' Landscaping, played wii and Nintendo DS.... but according to him, he did not do much. ;) Gotta love kids!

Three days after the 6 - 7 inch snowfall, the temperature was near 60! We celebrated Thanksgiving at Bethany Church with Dan's extended family. We also toured the cemetary behind the church. Ryan's cousins, Anna and John, discovered that there were Revolutionary and Civil War vets there.

The blur in the picture is Ryan, thoroughly enjoying our first snow day! The day's festivities included making a snowman and having a snowball fight. Dad started the fight, but Ryan's aim is getting better!

Second Grade

With some butterflies in his stomach and some tears in his eyes, Ryan entered 2nd grade! After a little while second grade was awesome! He loves the stories his teacher tells about her own daughters. The big excitement today was the introduction of the NEW HARDCOVER SCIENCE BOOK!

Ryan went to bed at 8pm sharp tonight. I was working on school stuff at the computer and he came in around 11pm. We went into his room and he said the tooth was still under his pillow. He had it in a cool green treasure chest that our nurse gave him. He shook it, realized it was empty and I pointed out some money under his pillow! We do not know how the tooth fairy was so sneaky?!? He told me she was magic and he new she would be tricky!

1st Grade, Here I Come!

Ryan started school last week. After a difficult wake-up period where he begged me for just one more day of summer vacation, he was in the car and ready to see his old friends. He absolutely loves his teacher! He is much more comfortable in his surroundings this year and it shows. Some of the basic fears that he had last year have vanished. I love having my little buddy with me on the rides to and from school. It is a bonus to get to see him in the halls from time to time, although he doesn't always acknowledge me. LOL

Long Overdue House Update

Since my last update, here is a list of what has changed: wiring and rough plumbing is done, insulation is done, septic is done, alarm system is done, Ryan's bathroom is sheetrocked, primed, and tiled, utility room is sheetrocked and tiled, front porch decking is on and primed, piers are in place for the back porch, siding has arrived, garage has radiant heat in place and floor has been poured... Everyone has been busy! At this point, we are hoping to move in my the end of October. THIS IS SO EXCITING! Ryan loves to watch the house "grow."

While we were away, amazing things happened! The guys, Todd, Joe S., Joe C., and Bill finished the plywood and tarpaper on the roof. During a rainy day some of the guys did inside work, framing out the pantry, wiring... too cool! This week has been brutally hot. Joe C. and Bill have been braving the heat this week as they shingle the roof! It is hard to believe that the hole was dug only 4 months ago!
